AMMONNEWS - Chilly weather conditions are expected to prevail on Thursday, with low-altitude clouds and a chance of light showers during the day in parts of the northern and central areas of the country, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily report.
At nighttime, the Kingdom will be affected by a cold and wet depression centered over Syria, bringing very cold and cloudy conditions with rainfall that may turn heavy, mainly in the central and northern regions, accompanied by thunders and hail at times, and causing floods in valleys and low-lying areas. Winds will be westerly moderate to brisk and d occasional gusts, the JMD added.
The JMD warned of slippery roads, poor visibility in the highlands due to fog formation, possible floods in valleys and low-lying areas in the late night hours, and strong gusty winds.
On Friday, the impact of the polar, cloudy front will continue with heavy downpours in the western areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail at times, making flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas. Snow showers are also expected over the high mountain peaks, the JMD added.
Chances of rainfall will decrease in the evening, the JMD noted, expecting freeze formation overnight in many regions.
The weather will start to stabilize on Saturday, as mercury levels will rise. Therefore, it will be cold in many parts of the country and pleasant in the Jordan valley and Aqaba during the day.
The department predicted chilly evening with freeze formation, while winds will northwesterly moderate.
Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman will reach 10 degrees Celsius, and 6 in the northern cities, dropping down at night to 5 and -1 respectively. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 19 degrees and lows standing at 12 at night, the JMD added.
