Polar depression to affect Kingdom today, subsides at night
AMMONNEWS - A polar air mass will cross the Kingdom on Tuesday, leading to a significant in temperatures and bringing chilly and cloudy weather with heavy rainfall accompanied by thunders and hail, and causing floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
Snow showers are also forecast to fall on areas 1000m above sea level, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.
By nighttime, chances of snow will gradually decrease, mainly in the northern and central regions, the department predicted, expecting freeze formation in the highlands and the Badia areas.
The JMD warned of slippery roads, flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, especially in the northern and central cities, and poor visibility due to fog formation in the mountainous areas.
A slight rise in temperatures is forecast on Wednesday, but cold and partly cloudy weather will remain with a chance for light showers in some parts of the Kingdom, while winds will be northwesterly moderate.
On Thursday night, the Kingdom will be affected by another cold and wet air mass accompanied by a depression, bringing rainfall in the northern and central regions. Winds will be southwesterly moderate to brisk, the JMD further said.
Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman will reach 5 degrees Celsius, and 3 in the northern cities, dropping down at night to zero degrees, while it will reach a high of 2 and a low of -2 in the southern governorates. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 17 degrees and lows standing at 9 at night, the JMD added.
