Gov't will start necessary measures to merge gendarmerie, civil defence directorates: Minister
AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh, said the cabinet discussed Monday at its session, which was chaired by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, aspects of the Royal letter, in which His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to merge the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie and the Civil Defence Directorate into the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
In a televised statement after the session, Adaileh the Prime Minister directed the Interior Minister and head of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to start taking the necessary measures in terms of amending laws and legislations related to these institutions.
He pointed out that the government started to merge some institutions and restructuring some independent bodies, as part of series of steps it had taken to rationalize expenditures, control administration, and improve government performance, in a manner that would contribute to enhancing coordination between all state institutions.
