AMMONNEWS - HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute For Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS), inaugurated on Sunday the International Conference 'Islam in the West', organized by the RIIFS in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
The conference is attended by a number of Islamic scholars and Christian clergy, thinkers and ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries.
In a keynote speech, Prince El Hassan stressed the fundamental values of Islam such as justice, charity, wisdom, and compassion, adding that common knowledge and basic assets of education help to promote human values and a better understanding of the concerns and fears leading to 'humanization of the other and the promotion if sympathy'.
He underlined the importance of dialogue, noting that the time has come to talk about commonalities, away from prejudice, bias and limited thinking.
His Highness called for addressing interdependence between the different cultures and the move towards creativity by promoting pluralism based on mutual respect and seeking links to human concepts based on understanding the other.
Prince El Hassan pointed out that there are European centers working to build bridges and common grounds, adding: 'We have to establish a relationship with them based on mutual respect and to develop visions that move us from the culture of receiving to the culture of empowerment and introduction of active culture.'
His Highness reiterated his call for the establishment of a Global Zakat Fund to promote the concept of human and social solidarity and protect human dignity.
Dirk Kunze, Regional Director MENA, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, pointed out that Islam has become a components of the West and underlined the importance of the conference to contribute to highlighting the true noble image of Islam.
