Russia, Jordan are reliable partners, ambassador says
AMMONNEWS - On the cultural cooperation, Desiatnikov stressed the two countries have a joint interest in developing and boosting cultural ties as well as dialogue between various mutual organizations and unions. The envoy expressed grateful to the Jordanian assistance in opening a mission of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society in Amman in January 2019, particularly in light of the increasing number of pilgrims from Russia, who visit the holy sites of Jordan every year.
'According to our rough calculations there are about 7 thousand people in the Kingdom, who are mainly family members of mixed marriages, he said.
'I am glad to mention that the Russian community in Jordan is very well organized and interconnected', the ambassador stated. The Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots of Jordan is an umbrella structure that unites all Russian clubs and various societies,' he explained.
Answering a question about the ' Deal of the century', the ambassador stated ' we are obviously very concerned about the counterproductive US attempts to invent in the so-called 'Deal,' stressing 'we are confident that it is a path leading nowhere because a just, stable and comprehensive peace in the region is impossible unless it is based on the internationally recognized two-state solution to the Palestinian problem.'
He stressed Russia's position toward the Palestinian issue saying 'as for Jerusalem our position is crystal-clear: we stand by the international framework that stipulates the two-state solution, the creation of the independent Palestinian State within the 1967 frontiers and with East Jerusalem as its capital '.
The ambassador also called for concreting parameters of a solution for the entire range of issues regarding the status of Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, that should be coordinated at the direct talks between the parties concerned.
He also considered the US president's decision to declare the Golan Heights as part of Israel a massive blow to the whole foundation of the potential solution to this issue, affirming that the Golan Heights were and will remain an occupied sovereign territory of the Syrian Arab Republic by all relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Concerning UNRWA, Desiatnikov highly valued the contribution of this agency to the welfare and assistance of the Palestinian refugees in the region and it is important task of easing the burden placed on the hosting states and local communities. ' Slashing financial support to the UNRWA and cutting off its financing are kinds of pressure on one of the parties to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, a way to make the Palestinians more flexible towards the notorious ‘deal of the century’.
' In our view such violations is in fact a case of blackmailing that can lead to a dubious outcome, because only two-state solution is the just, fair and self-reliant key to inveterate quagmire of the Middle Eastern crisis' the Russian envoy pointed out.
Responding to a question about the reason for the Russian-Chinese agreement not to participate in the Bahrain Economic Conference, he said 'We consider the upcoming event in Manama to be nothing more than yet another attempt by the United States to shift the priorities in the regional agenda and impose the unilateral vision of the settlement of this protracted conflict, ' he said.
'Russia and China not only have refused to participate in the seminar, so far we don’t see any enthusiasm for it from any other but a few Middle Eastern countries,' he stressed.
He also expressed deep concerned that Washington persistently tries to substitute the goal of achieving a comprehensive political resolution with a package of economic incentives and undermine the principle of two states for two people.
On the Syrian crisis, the ambassador affirmed that Russia has always been an strong supporter and promoter of the political-diplomatic settlement of the Syrian crisis and contributed to the establishment of the appropriate international legal basis to this process.
'As a matter of fact we were among the architects of the 2254 UN Security Council resolution and sponsors of the Astana peace process by the virtue of which the constant ceasefire in Syria was achieved,' he said.
Helping the Syrian government to eradicate the terrorism threat, the Russian official urged all parties in Syria to work diligently and constructively to ensure a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition based on the Geneva Communique and the above-mentioned documents.
'Now the work is ongoing to form the 'Constitutional Committee' and we hope that quite soon our UN colleagues will be able to present it to the international community,' he further added.
He also called on Arab partners to provide an opportunity for Syria’s return to ‘the Arab family’ at the soonest possible, stressing that the return of Damascus to the proceedings of the Arab League will, without doubt , speed up the peace process in Syria.
