"Tobacco case" defendant dies in prison, hearing adjourned until
AMMONNEWS - President of the State Security Court (SSC) Judge Col. Mohammad Afif said one of 29 defendants in the high-profile 'tobacco case' died on Wednesday morning after a sudden ailment .
Afif told Petra that the trial will continue in accordance with due process every Tuesday and Wednesday to listen to the prosecution witnesses, noting that today's session was adjourned due to the defendant's death.
To date, the court has heard 14 prosecution witnesses in the 'tobacco case,' in which 29 defendants are involved, including six fugitives, and 24 companies, of those companies 22 are owned or registered with or represented by 22 defendants, while two companies are registered to two of the 141 prosecution witnesses.
The case includes 136 affidavits on the 21 charges against the defendants, of those were 8 felonies and 13 misdemeanors.
