King's visit to Iraq came "at the right time": businessmen
AMMONNEWS - Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) emphasized the importance of His Majesty King Abdullah's visit to Iraq on Monday, in which he was keen to promote Arab solidarity, stressing that it came 'at the right time' especially amid challenges facing the region.
On a statement issued on Tuesday, the JBA said that the Iraqi market is key to Jordan's economy and exports.
It said that the oil pipeline project that stretches from the Iraqi city of Basra to the Jordanian port city of Aqaba will serve Iraq on the long run, as well as provide Jordan with its oil needs and make it possible for Iraq to set up an oil refinery so that it could export to international markets.
The JBA stressed the importance of enhancing economic and commercial ties between the two countries, expecting that tangible results well be felt in the near future on the ground.
President of the JBA, Hamdi Tabbaa, stressed the necessity of strengthening the Jordanian-Iraqi commercial and economic ties by conducting joint projects that promote their best interests.
Tabbaa stressed the importance of removing obstacles that stand in the way of improving the commercial exchange, the most prominent of which are the cost of freight transport and customs fees imposed by the Iraqis on imports.
