AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday directed the government to issue a general pardon law according to the Constitution, in a way that would mitigate challenges and pressures facing citizens.
The King stressed that the amnesty bill should maintain the rule of law, in a manner that does not harm national and societal security, as well as citizens' rights.
His Majesty highlighted the importance of giving wrongdoers a chance to correct their course of life and behavior, emanating from keenness to protect those citizens, who committed wrongs, and are suffering from difficult circumstances accordingly.
His Majesty also underlined the importance of the general pardon law in alleviating the burdens on Jordanians, and mitigating the economic and social circumstances, to preserve their dignity and to start anew.
The King highlighted importance of the law in entrenching the concept of tolerance and forgiveness, stressing that the law must take into consideration personal and civil rights to those who were affected within the context of rule of law and justice.
King Abdullah expressed his hope the law would harness patriotism and boost the concept of social security, offering a chance to start over to people in rehabilitation centers to return to their families, normal lives, homes, and jobs.
