AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi Thursday said realizing peace and stability in the Middle East requires the work to resolve its crises through a holistic strategy that emanates from an effective endeavors to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He said the conflict is the fundamental cause of the tensions that need to be resolved on the basis of the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Addressing the annual Mediterranean Dialogues (MED) forum in Italy, Safadi said Jordan represents a voice of moderation calling for peace and prosperity in the region.
The top diplomat also said terrorism is a common enemy that in order to defeat, hotbeds of tensions and deprivation exploited by terrorists need to be dissolved.
At the forum, which was organized by the Italian Foreign Ministry and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), Safadi also highlighted the victory Iraq achieved over the terrorist group Daesh, reiterating the call to stand by the neighboring Arab country to overcome the repercussions of its war on terror.
On Syria, Safadi also echoed the call to find a political solution to its crisis that would bring back its stability, indicating the importance for the international community to continue supporting the 1.3 million Syrian refugees Jordan hosts.
The forum kicked off with welcoming remarks by ISPI President Giampiero Massolo, as well as keynote speeches by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Enzo Moavero Milanesi and President of Iraq Barham Salih in the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
In Italy, the minister met with Milanesi and discussed with him bilateral ties and developments in the Middle East. They reviewed actions needed to activate cooperation between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the forum, Safadi met his Palestinian counterpart Riad al-Malki for a discussion on sustaining coordination and cooperation on efforts aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The minister, further, discussed with Alistair Burt, British Minister of State for the Middle East Affairs, efforts to push forward the peace process, as well as an upcoming conference in London support Jordan's economy.
Safadi also met Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal and discussed with him bilateral relations and the developments in Syria.
