8 citizens evacuate in operations ongoing for 14 missing in Al Jafr
AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghunaimat, on Saturday, said concerned bodies are still searching for 6 missing persons in the Ma'an region of Al Jafr area.
Eight of the missing were evacuated and the whereabouts of 6 are known and work is under way to rescue them, Ghunaimat noted in a statement Saturday evening.
A military aircraft was dispatched to the site to search for them as soon as they were reported missing, she added.
She pointed out that rescue crews were still searching for a girl who went missing yesterday after flashfloods swept the Walla region, south of Madaba governorate.
The minister said in a statement that the death toll of the flashfloods that struck parts of the central and southern regions has risen to 12 (seven in Madaba; 4 in the Dhaba' area on the Desert Highway and one in the southern governorate of Ma'an).
A total of 29 people were injured in the flashfloods, including 8 Civil Defense and Public Security departments personnel.
