Gag ordered on investigation of Dead Sea bus incident
AMMONNEWS - The Prosecutor General in the Jordan Valley district of South Shunah on Saturday ordered a gag on media reports or publications on an investigation that authorities opened into the deaths of schoolchildren in the Dead Sea area on Thursday.
The decision issued by Prosecutor General Ahmad Rahamneh bans any reports, information or commentary on the course of the investigation that could incite prejudice or harm the victims, the injured and their families, and warns of legal accountability of any violation under the valid laws.
Meanwhile, Jordanians from all walks of life expressed their sympathies and sorrow, and tributes were also pouring in from abroad for the victims and families of the massive flash floods that hit the Dead Sea and left 21 people dead, most of them were picnicking schoolchildren, and injured 34 others.
The Ifta' Department expressed its deepest condolences to the 'one big Jordanian family and the families of the children, and those who passed as martyrs in the flash floods'. In a statement, the department also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Evangelical Synod in Jordan said in a statement that it 'shared the pain of the one Jordanian family in these difficult times that our country is passing through after the loss of a group of our dear sons and daughters in the flash floods'. It said Synod churches will hold special prayers on Sunday for the victims and their families.
