Dead Sea flash floods death toll climbs to 18, search for missing continues
AMMONNEWS - Civil Defence Department (CDD) rescuers have pulled 18 dead bodies swept away by raging waters caused by flash floods triggered by torrential rains in the Dead Sea area, a security source said Thursday.
CDD paramedics have also provided medical care to 34 people who were injured during the incident, said the source, adding that search for missing persons is ongoing.
Air force helicopters have also been deployed to comb the area and search for survivors, in addition to marine divers and swimmers who are at the site now to rescue trapped people, including a schoolchildren who were on a trip to the area.
Prime Minister Omar Razza oversaw the rescue operation and instructed state agencies to provide all needed assistance to ensure the safety of the students.
