PM: Gov't to foster partnership with youth to achieve reform vision
AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani Mulki said on Tuesday that his government seeks to activate its partnership with the youth and take their thoughts to enable them achieve their vision of reform aimed at rejuvenating the country with the minds of its youth.
He said in a meeting with 430 young men and women representing youth centres and universities across the Kingdom that the Hashemite leadership explores the future to give way for young leaders 'who carry the national concerns and forge ahead to uplift it.'
The prime minister told the meeting, the second the government held with young leaders in the past three months, that comprehensive reform is a key tenet of the Jordanian state, noting that Jordanian youth have a stake in realizing His Majesty the King's vision of self-reliance as a key step towards achieving reform and self-sustained growth of potentials.
Mulki also told the meeting, held over a fast-breaking Ramadan iftar at the Al Hussein Youth City in the attendance of a number of ministers, that Jordan had not come under any pressures to carry out any agenda that would overburden the citizen, adding that 'our independence is in our decisions, our will and our reform approach and resources.'
'Young people are the inexhaustible source we count on to achieve growth and progress in all fields', he said, noting the economic hardship the Kingdom is going through and underlining the high hopes the country pinned on youth.
He also referred to the many challenges that Jordanian society faces and the behaviors that are alien to our society, which are forbidden by God and the country, indicating that young people are the Kingdom's ambassadors, who back up the state in enhancing the rule of law and 'who are always biased to the higher national interest and who shun rumour.'
Mulki emphasised the need to develop the abilities of young people and to seek to instill their cultural and cognitive values, and to rely on modern technology for knowledge and to use it in a useful way.
He also highlighted the King's interest in youth in the Royal Discussion Papers he addressed to youth, in particular, and to the Jordanian society, intellectuals and influential opinion leaders in all platforms as well as enhancing democracy, participation and reform.
Jordan, the prime minister said, has a free press that has upheld the country's image ever since its founding, even in the bleakest of times, as well as a parliament that was elected with utmost transparency and objectivity, and governorate councils representing the Jordanian society, sharing in the decision-making process and providing services within a decentralized approach.
A number of ministers spoke of the effective role played by young people in bringing about positive change, noting the huge responsibility placed on them as the 'foundation of the future and the fortress of the country.' They stressed the importance of highlighting the capacities of youth and their effective contribution to development and economic and social progress in all fields.
