AMMONNEWS - Nine people were injured on Monday when an oxygen gas cylinder burst during demolitions carried out by a contracting firm near grain silos in the Old Port of Aqaba.
President of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Nasser Shraydeh said that civil defense crews were called in, brought the blaze under control and evacuated the injured to the Prince Hashem Hospital. He said a cleanup operation was underway at the site.
The Old Port area was handed over to a developer to remove the old structures and launch a large investment project, stressing that it is business as usual at the new port and that the fire had not affected the handling of goods.
