Interior minister, Indonesia police chief discuss security cooperation
AMMONNEWS - Interior Minister Samir Mubaidin Monday received Indonesian police chief Lit. Gen. Muhammad Tito Karnavian and an accompanying delegation for talks on ways to cement security and policing cooperation between the two countries.
The minister told the meeting that Jordan and Indonesia have 'long-standing and firm' ties, especially in the security, capacity-building and countering terrorism fields. He also that agreements are currently being prepared to activate and bolster coordination and cooperation in these fields.
Mubaidin, moreover, reviewed his ministry's work mechanism and its mandated tasks carried out by its various directorates across the Kingdom.
Talks also tackled the war on terror, where the minister said Jordan had suffered from the effects of extremism and violence that cost lives, indicating that the Kingdom is a strategic ally in the fight against terrorist organizations.
The government, he said, had put in place a national anti-terrorism strategy, in which all ministries and concerned bodies had been involved to counter terror at the ideological level.
The Indonesian official, for his part, said his country looks forward to forging closer ties with Jordan, particularly in the security, economic and political spheres.
Also, he emphasized the importance of intensifying coordination to fight crime and terrorism, commending the security situation in Jordan despite being in a war-torn region. The meeting saw the penning of a joint protocol to foster security cooperation, fight against cross border crimes and strengthen capacity building.
The protocol also aims to combat financing terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and psychotropic substances, economic crimes, financial fraud, banking offences, arms smuggling, human trafficking and cybercrime.
