AMMONNEWS - Deputizing for Prime Minister, Hani Mulki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Jamal Al-Sarayrah, on Thursday, received Spanish Senate President, Pio Garcia Escudero, and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting reviewed the current situation and developments in the region, which reflected on the economic situation in the Kingdom, as one of the largest host countries for refugees in the region.
Al-Sarayrah hailed the bilateral ties and expressed appreciation for Spain's supportive positions toward the Palestinian issue and resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
The state minister reviewed challenges Jordan is experiencing as a result of the regional turmoil, and managed to deal with these challenges.
He renewed Jordan's appreciation for Spain's rejection to relocate the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
He called on Spain, as an effective member of the European Union, to urge the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Al-Sarayrah noted the importance of Spain's efforts to cover the UNRWA's budget deficit.
The minister stressed the importance of promoting economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and investment cooperation and benefit from Spanish expertise in renewable energy sectors in addition to the importance of encouraging Spanish tourism to Jordan
Escudero, in turn, commended ties with Jordan, and the Kingdom's role in the region, underlining the importance of promoting cooperation and coordination between the two countries in all sectors.
He said Spain will continue supporting Jordan through increasing the EU aid to enable it to face economic challenges and continue its humanitarian role towards refugees.
He also said that his country supports all peace efforts aimed at solving the Palestinian issue in a just and comprehensive way so that the region would enjoy security and stability.
