Gov't vows stiffer legal action against man who assaulted Chinese investor
AMMONNEWS - The government on Wednesday vowed to pursue stiff and deterrent legal action against a man who assaulted a Chinese investor today.
State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said the assault, on the director of a project run by the Chinese government-owned SEPCO company at Al-Hussein Thermal Power Station, by a former employee, was 'disgraceful and tantamount to an insult against everyone'.
The minister, who is also the government spokesman, said such criminal activity is alien to the Jordanian society and rises to an attack on the national economy and interests as well as on the state's prestige.
Momani voiced this government's categorical rejection of such acts and said all state bodies will continue to facilitate and protect domestic and foreign investments.
Earlier, police said they had apprehended the perpetrator and launched an investigation into the incident which was a result of a previous dispute. Once investigations are completed, the police added, the man will be referred to court. The project director was in a good condition, the police source indicated.
