Planning Minister, head of UN refugee agency discuss Syrian refugees response plan
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury discussed on Tuesday with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, the Jordanian response plan 2018-2020 to the Syrian refugee crisis, which was recently launched by the government.
The minister stressed the importance of working together to find the necessary funding for the plan, which aims to provide the necessary support to the humanitarian needs of the refugees and those of host communities, and support the budget.
The two sides also agreed to continue to urge donor countries and the international community to secure adequate additional grants to meet the urgent funding needs of Jordan over the next three years and direct aid to the priorities set by the government to ensure providing the proper level of services to Jordanian communities and Syrian refugees.
They also agreed to forge a united position at a conference due to be held in Brussels in April and urge donor nations and the international community to shoulder their responsibilities towards Jordan and mobilize the required assistance for the response plan.
The Minister pointed to the importance of collective action to translate international agreements and commitments on the ground and to examine the progress of work regarding the Jordan Compact and subsequent international pledges after the London Conference.
Fakhoury said that the growing burden of the Syrian crisis, which affected all aspects of life and exceeded Jordan's limited resources, has threatened the Kingdom's development gains and national achievements over the past decades in addition to its direct socioeconomic effects.
