FM : Defeating terrorism, its ideology "common global goal"
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi said defeating terrorism and its ideology is a common global goal that Jordan will continue to pursue, in cooperation with the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh.
In a speech during the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh held Tuesday in Kuwait, Safadi noted that Daesh was militarily defeated in Iraq and Syria but remains a security and intellectual danger that requires further coordination and joint action to defeat it.
Since its launch in 2014, the coalition has made important achievements against Daesh, the foreign minister said, adding that the challenge now is to prevent this group from re-starting, which can be done by finding political solutions to the roots of tension and conflicts, promoting stability and ensuring security in liberated areas.
He commended Iraq's victories over the Daesh group, emphasizing Jordan's support for Iraq Prime Minister, Haider al-Abbadi's efforts to rebuild Iraq and achieve national reconciliation.
He also called for ending the Syrian crisis and finding a political solution to it, accepted by the Syrian people and in accordance with the UN resolutions.
Safadi thanked Kuwait for hosting the gathering, which was attended by foreign ministers and representatives of 71 countries and 4 international and regional organizations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the foreign minister held talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, Danish Foreign Minister, Anders Samuelsen, Irish Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciaran Cannon, and Portuguese Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Teresa Ribeiro.
