King receives bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday said that Jordan would continue its historical role in protecting Islamic and Christian places in Jerusalem out of the Hashemite custodianship over these sanctities.
Receiving the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land Sani Ibrahim Azar and a delegation accompanying him, King Abdullah emphasized that the Christian sanctities receive the same attention as Islamic holy sites.
The meeting touched on Jordan's relentless efforts to preserve holy places in Jerusalem and maintain their Arab identity, as well as counter any attempt to change the status quo of the holy city.
Bishop Azar, on his part, highlighted the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, lauding the King's unwavering efforts to realize peace and security in the Middle East, enhance dialogue and disseminate the values of love, tolerance and moderation.
He also reviewed challenges facing Jerusalem churches, in the light of Israel's intention to impose taxes on property related to churches, which were exempted from fees. The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief and the director of the King's Office.
