Safadi: Political solution needed to safeguard Syria's unity
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi said on Tuesday that a political solution is needed to guarantee Syria's unity and territorial integrity, stressing that there will be no military solution to the Syrian crisis.
The minister was lecturing at the Royal Jordanian National Defence College, where he outlined Jordan's foreign policy objectives and guidelines in its approach toward regional and international issues.
He noted the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah in charting the country's foreign policy, which enabled it to balance and make up for its limited resources and small size.
In the lecture to defense and war course students, titled 'Jordan and international relations', Safadi said the Kingdom's foreign policy stems from a deep understanding of the overall international situation and is characterized with moderation, realism and the ability to harmonize and balance the national interest and the public interest.
He stressed support of the Palestinians to reach a permanent settlement and a just solution to the Palestinian issue, which is top of 'our priorities', as Jordanian foreign policy is governed by the principles of adherence to the United Nations Charter, international legitimacy resolutions, Arab League Charter and non-interference in other countries' affairs.
He also said terrorism is a regional and global challenge that must be collectively tackled at all security, cultural and ideological levels, adding that dealing with terrorism must be based on a holistic vision.
