AMMONNEWS - A new ambassador to Baghdad for the first time since 2014 has been appointed by the Jordanian Prime Ministry.
The Royal Hashemite Court attested the decision to name Montaser Jaafar Zoubi a new ambassador to Baghdad, the Prime Ministry's website wrote.
This follows the Jordanian government decision to summon its ambassador from Baghdad in 2014 for security purposes, according to Jordanian officials.
Relations between Jordan and Iraq are improving following reopening the Turaibil border crossing between the two countries in August 2017, for the first time since its closure in 2015.
Its opening came after the Iraqi forces ousted ISIS and regained control on the main highway to Baghdad.
It was an opportunity to promote bilateral trade and investment among Jordan and Iraq, and to revive Jordanians exports to Iraq after it dropped from JOD 915 million in 2014 to JOD 533 million and JOD 353 million during the years 2015 and 2016, respectively.
