Polar front to bring rain, snow as of Thursday midnight
AMMONNEWS - Cold and cloudy conditions are forecast to continue on Thursday with scattered showers in the northern areas, the Jordan Meteorological Department(JMD) said.
Winds will be southwesterly brisk with speed reaching 50-60 Km and gusts exceeding 85 km/h, blowing dust across many parts of the Kingdom and reducing horizontal visibility.
Starting Thursday evening, the country will be affected by a very cold polar front accompanied by a depression centered over northwestern Syria, causing temperatures to tangible and bringing chilly conditions with heavy rainfall accompanied with hail, thunder and lightning across the country.
The polar front will deepen starting Thursday night, bringing snowfall over the highlands in the northern and southern parts of the Kingdom as Ajloun and al Sharah mountains, the JMD added.
As of Friday dawn, snowfall is expected on elevations over 900m above sea level as well as the hilly areas in the northern and southern regions. Chilly, cloudy and rainy conditions will remain all Friday with northwesterly brisk winds with speed reaching around 40-50 Km/h, the department explained.
Temperatures will rise on Saturday, but cold weather will continue to prevail with high clouds and fog formation in the early morning hours over the hilly mountains, the JMD further said.
Daytime temperatures forecast today in Amman and the southern regions will reach 12 degrees Celsius dropping down to 5 in both areas, while in the northern cities they will range between a high of 13 and a low of 7at night . The weather will be warmer in the southern port city of Aqaba with highs around 22 degrees and lows reaching11 at night, the JMD added.
