Crown Prince attends World Future Energy Summit opening
AMMONNEWS - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein on Monday attended the opening ceremony of the World Future Energy Summit at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
A number of leaders and representatives of world countries attended the summit, which was held as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which drew more than 35,000 participants from 175 countries, including ministers, representatives of international organizations and international companies, and elite international scholars and experts.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which is held this year under the theme of 'Driving the Global Energy Transformation', is the largest gathering of sustainability in the Middle East and aims to promote understanding of the key social, economic and environmental trends that guide sustainable development and discuss the challenges facing renewable energy and sustainable development.
In remarks, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed said that the focus of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week this year is on young people as a reaffirmation of the faith in their role as the cornerstone of sustaining the momentum of the development process.
The future can not be discussed in isolation from ensuring an active role for youth and investing in the development of their abilities and skills, refining their talents, qualifying them and empowering them to be leaders of the future, he said.
He said that the UAE will continue its leading efforts to ensure energy security through a diverse mix of clean and renewable sources.
The ceremony included a videotaped speech by renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, who emphasized the importance of invigorating the role of young people and supporting future sustainability leaders.
The event also included a panel discussion for young people, in which a group of talented youth from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, the United States and South Korea participated to discuss their creative ideas on climate, energy and economic development.
Prince Hussein also attended a ceremony to distribute the 2018 Zayed Future Energy Prize, which was held during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
The Crown Prince and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed handed the awards to the nine winners in the categories of Best Personal Achievement for Individuals, Large Corporations, Small and Medium Enterprises, Non-Profit Organizations and the International High School Award.
