AMMONNEWS - The Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday endorsed the 2018 amended arbitration law during a session chaired by Speaker Atef Tarawneh and attended by Cabinet members.
The bill would facilitate the process of resorting to arbitration as an alternative means to settle disputes, ease the pressure on the judiciary and shorten the procedures to settle disputes towards achieving justice 'at the shortest possible time'.
Under the law, arbitration will also fall under the jurisdiction of the Court of Cassation, not the Court of Appeals, in terms of appointing an arbitrator, terminating his mission or endorsing an arbitration ruling or terminating it.
At the outset of the session, MPs praised the efforts of the General Intelligence Department in foiling a terrorist plot in which 17 people affiliated with Daesh were arrested and weapons and equipment seized. The suspects had planned to attack security, military, commercial and media targets to undermine national security, foment chaos and intimidate the public.
Meanwhile, a memo was signed by 50 lawmakers calling for recalling Jordan's ambassador to Israel to protest the Knesset's approval of legislation to place Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, a move that could pave the way for the eviction of the Palestinian population in the city.
