PM attends 18th Olive Festival at the King Hussein Public Park
AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani Al-Mulki, on Wednesday, inaugurated at Al Hussein Public Park, the18th Olive Festival organized by the National Center for Agricultural Research with the participation of farmers, associations and local and international institutions.
The prime minister, who was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat, toured the exhibition, where agricultural products are being displayed.
The four-day event aims at helping farmers, rural associations and housewives to market their products, as well as, introducing consumers nationwide to olive varieties.
Olives covers about 77 per cent of the total area planted with fruit trees and 44 per cent of the total cultivated area in Jordan, Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat said.
An estimated amount of 252,000 tonnes of olive fruits are expected to be picked this season, of which 201,000 tonnes will be pressed to produce 36,000 tonnes of olive oil, while an estimated amount of 50,000 tonnes of olive fruits will be pickled, Hneifat said.
