AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi urged the international community to continue its support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to continue its services to Palestinian refugees within the UNRWA areas of operations including Jordan.
During a meeting with UNRWA's Commissioner-General, Pierre Krahenbuhl, Safadi called for tackling the annual deficit in UNRWA's budget to maintain its educational, health and relief services to the refugees.
He also highlighted the importance of UNRWA's Advisory Commission meeting that will be held at the Dead Sea today with the participation of donor countries and Arab host countries of Palestinian refugees.
Safadi voiced hope that the meeting will come up with positive results that will help in covering UNRWA's budget deficit for this year that amounts to $77 million.
The UNRWA official expressed appreciation of Jordan's continued support to the agency at all levels as well as its efforts to address its budget deficit.
