‘Jordan-Israel relations only after Palestinian state set up’
AMMONNEWS - Some 99 per cent of the solution to the impasse suffered by the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations is in the hands of the US, Jordanian President of the Senate, Faisal Al-Fayez, has said.
In an interview with the Anadolu Agency, Al-Fayez explained that the negotiations stalled in April 2014 due to the Israel’s refusal to stop settlement expansion in occupied territories, agree to a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, and to release Palestinian prisoners.
He noted that the EU could play a role in pushing the negotiations forward, but the complete solution is in the hands of Washington, which can influence Israel.
“We heard that there is a solution that will be proposed by Washington, which is currently working on finding a solution, but no one knows what this is. There are, however, efforts being made,” said Al-Fayez.
He stressed: “There will not be a solution to the Palestinian issue without the withdrawal of the occupation from the 1967 borders, the establishment of a viable sovereign Palestinian state, and the preservation of the Palestinians’ legitimate rights. The two-state solution is the ideal solution.”
“Jordan cannot have relations with any entity in the West Bank, as Israel wants, without Israel’s complete withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza Strip and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state; there is no other solution,” he added.
