King, UN secretary general discuss regional development
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II met with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres late Sunday in New York, where they reviewed the current regional developments as well as Jordan and UN role in reaching political solutions to the crises in region.
The meeting dealt with the latest developments in Syria, mainly issues of de-escalation and efforts aim at finding a political solution to the crisis, within Geneva talks, as well as the situation in Iraq.
Talks also focused on the importance of breaking the deadlock in peace process and re-launching serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the basis of the two-state solution and the international legitimacy resolutions .
King Abdullah and Guterres reviewed the additional burdens imposed by the Syrian crisis on the Jordanian economy besides its limited resources, stressing the need to increase the international community's support for host countries, mainly Jordan, to enable them to continue providing humanitarian and relief services to them.
The meeting also touched on the UN's effort to improve its work in the areas of relief, development and resolve international conflict .
The meeting was attended by the minister of foreign and expatriate affairs, the director of the King's Office, minister of planning and international cooperation and Jordan’s permanent representative to the UN.
