AMMONNEWS - Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, on Monday, joined the Doctors of Jordan’s open free medical day at Zai in Al Balqa’ Governorate, on Monday, to discuss the group’s volunteering efforts.
Doctors of Jordan is a volunteer group that aims to organize open free medical days on a weekly or monthly basis across Jordan, as well as provide healthcare services to all those who cannot afford them.
Queen Rania was welcomed by the Doctors of Jordan Co-Presidents, Ms. Razan Ghareeb and Ms. Alaa Abu Salhieh, along with the Director of the Zai Cultural Forum, Mr. Yousef Amaireh.
Her Majesty toured the spaces set up for the free medical day, which included a general examination room, ophthalmology and gynecology clinics, a lab and pharmacy, and an area dedicated to general practitioners and specialists.
After the tour, Queen Rania met with the group’s board members and volunteers, and commended their efforts in providing free healthcare to those in need.
During the meeting, which was moderated by the Co-Founder and President of Jordan Volunteers, Mr. Mo’tasem Masalmeh, Her Majesty was briefed on the history of the group, its initiatives, and the past experiences of its volunteers.
Doctors of Jordan is an initiative that was established by Jordan Volunteers in January of 2016 as the succeeding phase to the ‘Lissa fe Himmeh’ initiative.
The group has organized a total of 25 events thus far, examining around 800 patients per event, and providing complete medical care to those in need.
During the open free medical days, volunteers offer awareness lectures, free medical consultations, lab tests, radiological imagining, and minor surgeries. They also adopt cases for long-term follow ups that may require further evaluation.
Volunteering members include both organizers and medical specialists, the latter of which include consultants, general practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, lab technicians, nurses, physiotherapists, optometrists, and medical students.
