Queen Rania calls for widening circle of interest in design at visit to Design Institute Amman
AMMONNEWS - Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited the Design Institute Amman (DIA) in support of Jordan’s design industry on Monday, and met with some of the designers enrolled in its courses and workshops.
The Queen was welcomed by the Founding Director of the institute, Ms. Randa Jabaji, who gave Her Majesty a tour of some of the facility’s workshops and classrooms.
Her Majesty also participated in a discussion with sixteen designers moderated by Ms. Jabaji and Amman Design Week co-director Ms. Abeer Seikaly.
The debate focused on the status of design education in Jordan, the need to increase awareness about the sector, and the collaboration between Design Institute Amman and the Amman Design Week team.
Her Majesty emphasized the importance of enlarging the circle of interest in the design sector to include its integration into Jordanian culture and its inclusion in various educational fields.
She also expressed her support for the institute’s continued collaboration with professional and talented designers to maintain interest and participation in the design sector.
Her Majesty’s first stop was at the institute’s Jewelry Lab, a space dedicated to classes and workshops on the art of jewelry making and design.
The Queen met with a group of students enrolled in the course and inquired about the specific jewelry making techniques they use, as well as their motivation behind choosing to learn these particular skills. A sample of the students’ work was on display at the main hall.
Her Majesty also met with students from the institute’s Graphic Design classroom, where the introductory level Graphic Design program is taught.
She listened to various success stories on how participants have managed to enhance their basic design skills and gain a firm grasp on the course’s professional applications.
The next tour stop was the ‘Introduction to Fashion Design’ class, where the Queen participated in a discussion with its students regarding their interest in fashion design, and the expansion of their creativity through the program.
Design Institute Amman was established in 2012 with the objective of enhancing the skills of professionals and the performance of regional firms through design education.
It also works on fostering professional connections with internationally renowned designers and design institutes.
Courses offered by the institute cater to both working professionals and novice design enthusiasts looking to develop their skills and seek different career options.
Last year, the Institute took part in the Amman Design Week, setting up workshops in furniture and light design, jewelry making, and digital instruction.
