Decentralization aims to widen participation in decision-making, says minister
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Interior, Ghaleb al-Zou'bi, on Monday, emphasized that the decentralization scheme is designed to broaden grassroots participation in the decision-making process and press ahead with sustainable development nationwide.
The minister said the scheme will empower citizen to play a greater role in the formulation of local programs and policies in a manner that serves their needs and improves public services.
Chairing a meeting for a ministerial committee entrusted with the implementation of the project, Al-Zou'bi said the decentralization scheme underlines the government's commitment to comprehensive and gradual reform as envisaged by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
'There is no room for delay or slowdown in implementing the decentralization law', said the minister.
Further, he reviewed his ministry's measures to support the Independent Elections Commission (IEC), which is responsible for administering and supervising elections. He said the ministry is ready to provide the IEC with qualified human cadres to prepare for the local council's elections this year.
