King meets U.S. ministers of Defense, Homeland Security
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Monday, held separate meetings in Washington, DC, with U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, John Kelly, during which they discussed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways of promoting them in various fields.
His Majesty's meeting with the U.S Defense Secretary addressed coordination and consultation between Jordan and the United States regarding developments in the Middle East, and ways to deal with them, in order to achieve security and stability for the region and its peoples.
The meeting, which took place at the Pentagon, tackled the importance of a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, where His Majesty stressed the need to continue the fight against terrorism and its gangs in the region, within a holistic approach.
They also stressed the need for progressing towards reaching political solutions to the region's crises, in a manner that reflects on its security and stability.
They also discussed military cooperation between Jordan and the United States and ways of strengthening it in the future, in line with the nature of challenges both countries face.
The meeting touched on the Syrian crisis and efforts to fight terrorism, in addition to the latest developments in Iraq.
U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, hailed as 'important' King Abdullah and Jordan's role in the region's stability and the fight against terrorism, stressing the importance of working with Jordan to develop a strategy in this regard, on the basis of partnership between the two countries and common interests and challenges.
He commended His Majesty the King's advices for dealing with the challenges of the coming stage, stressing in this regard the U.S. administration's commitment to supporting Jordan to face various challenges.
