US State Department official lauds Jordan's elections
AMMONNEWS - Independent Election Commission (IEC) president Khaled Kalaldeh and an accompanying delegation met in Washington with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Dafna Rand.
Kalaldeh briefed the State Department official and senior staff members about Jordan's expertise in holding elections, and the officials expressed the US leadership's commendation of the measures Jordan had taken in holding the recent parliamentary elections that met international standards.
He said the IEC had managed to restore voter confidence in the electoral process, and stressed the importance of the youth's role and participation in political life and elections.
The two sides agreed to set up a regional training centre at the IEC that would also offer education and awareness to the public in the Kingdom's upcoming municipal polls.
