AMMONNEWS - The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), welcomed 821,625 passengers in July, marking a year-on-year increase in passenger traffic (PAX) of 9.7 per cent, compared to the 749,314 PAX received in July 2015, the Airport International Group (AIG) said Wednesday.
AIG, a Jordanian company entrusted with the expansion, rehabilitation and operation of QAIA, said the increase was boosted by Eid al Fitr vacation and the start of the busy summer travel season.
QAIA registered a significant 5.4% year-on-year climb in ACM traffic, receiving 7,300 ACM in July as opposed to last year’s 6,926 ACM. Nevertheless, the Airport witnessed a 5.0% in cargo, handling 7,438 tons of cargo throughout July set against the 7,833 tons of July last year.
As of the end of July 2016, the Airport has experienced a notable 6.2% year-to-date (YTD) increase in PAX compared to the same period last year, welcoming a total of 4,246,086 passengers this year so far. Similarly, aircraft movements (ACM) and cargo traffic figures have both registered YTD increases of 5.6% and 5.0% respectively.
'We’re excited to be recording such a positive traffic performance for the month of July, which was enhanced by the Eid Al-Fitr vacation at the beginning of the month, as well as leisure and expat travels during the high summer season,' said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger. 'Our outlook for the next period remains positive in light of several new and exciting changes taking place, most notably the joining of new airlines to QAIA’s network, as well as the upcoming, inauguration of the second phase of the Airport’s New Terminal project.'
