Patel : UK is fully committed to assisting Syrian refugees in Jordan
AMMONNEWS - British International Development Secretary Priti Patel said Tuesday that her country is fully committed to assisting Syrian refugees in Jordan and will continue to work with the Kingdom to respond to the Syrian crisis through job creation and providing education to the refugees.
Patel, who is in Jordan on her first foreign trip since taking her job, told a press conference that her visit was to underline the partnership and deep relations between Britain and Jordan.
She said her government had hosted and facilitated the London donor conference held in February, which pledged aid to countries hosting Syrian refugees.
Patel yesterday signed a memo of understanding with Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury on arrangements for UK aid to Jordan.
She urged the other international partners to deliver on aid pledges that were made at the London conference, stressing 'there will be aid that will really make a difference for those who are now in dire need'.
During her trip, the British minister visited the Zaatari refugee camp, where she checked on UK-funded education and healthcare programmes for the Syrian refugees.
