FM: Security Council statement reflects appreciations of Jordan's anti-terrorism efforts
AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, Thursday, said the statement issued by the UN Security Council condemning a terrorist attack against Jordan, unequivocally expresses the international community anti-terrorism stance. He added the statement is also a confirmation that His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordan's efforts to counter terrorism are appreciated by the international community.
Members of the UN Security Council strongly, Thursday, deplored as 'heinous and cowardly terrorist' an attack on a Jordan Armed Forces’ Border Guard post near the Jordanian-Syrian border on Tuesday which resulted in 6 soldiers and security personnel killed and 14 injured.
They also noted with appreciation the important role that the Government of Jordan is playing in the international effort to counter Da’esh and terrorists affiliated with it, reaffirming that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
They also reaffirmed their grave concern that Da’esh foreign terrorist fighters, who have joined Da’esh in Syria, groups that have pledged allegiance to Da’esh , Al-Nusra Front and other individuals, groups, undertakings and entities associated with Da’esh or Al-Qaida continue operating in Syria, and condemned the negative impact of their presence, violent extremist ideology and actions on the stability of Syria, neighboring countries including Jordan, and the region. They stressed the need for all Member States to fully comply with their obligations under resolution 2178 (2014).
Moreover, they stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism, terrorist organizations and individual terrorists, in accordance with resolutions 2199 (2015) and 2253 (2015).
The members underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Jordan and all other relevant authorities in this regard.
