AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Saturday, chaird a meeting at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to check on steps taken by government bodies and the private sector to ensure the availability of all food items during the holy month of Ramadan at high quality and affordable prices.
A study conducted by the ministry on 59 basic commodities since the beginning of this year until the end of April showed that the prices of 45 commodities have dropped compared with the same period last year, while prices of 11 commodities have picked up and those of 3 haven't changed.
The prime minister said the meeting aimed at ensuring that basic goods and stuffs are available during the holy month of Ramadan at high-quality, stressing the importance of providing alternatives to citizens at reasonable, affordable and moral prices.
He noted that monopoly is morally nor legally or religiously unacceptable.
Competent officials, attended the meeting, spoke about their institutions' plans and perpetrations for the month of fasting, highlighting the availability of sufficient basic staples in the market to meet the needs of consumers.
