PM: All gov't agencies to participate in King Abdullah award
AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour Saturday urged all ministries and governmental agencies to participate in the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency, and said he will issue an order to all governmental bodies to join the award in its next session.
'This award was launched upon a royal directive that should be fully implemented, therefore participation by all (agencies) is incumbent', Ensour told the opening session of the 12th Government Leadership Forum, which he sponsors.
The forum, organised by the Ministry of Public Sector Development, was held at the Royal Cultural Centre to discuss the evaluation of ministries and public institutions within the categories of the award run by the King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency.
Ensour told the meeting that 98 entities had participated in the Award's last session, including 16 joining for the first time, but only 22 ministries took part while a number of other ministries and independent institutions stayed away.
The prime minister emphasised the award's importance in elevating government performance and the level of service to the public, stressing the need to raise and improve the pace of performance 'to overcome the many challenges'.
He pointed out that some entities were stuck in their same pace of performance without keeping abreast of the age, noting that 'this will not bring us any closer to the aspired goal of effective and fair services that meet the public's satisfaction'. Minister of Public Sector Development Khleef Khawaldeh said his ministry, in cooperation with the King Abdullah Centre, would hold several workshops for the ministries and governmental entities participating in the award on how to turn improvement opportunities mentioned in the evaluation reports into working plans to address performance loopholes.
