Abt Associates wins $51.7M contract to improve Jordan's health system
AMMONNEWS - Abt Associates has won a $51.7 million contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the government of Jordan to implement the country's Health Service Delivery Activity.
Abt will work with the Ministry of Health and nongovernmental organizations to improve primary health care services to women of reproductive age and children under five, with special attention to serving Syrian refugees residing in Jordanian communities.
The company will use its expertise in maternal, newborn and child health as well as family planning and reproductive health. A goal is to reduce maternal and newborn deaths and increase the use of family planning services.
Other areas of focus include gender-based violence, non-communicable diseases and nutrition.
In addition to working with Jordanian institutions, the company also counts the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the Population Council among its partners.
The contract is part of the company’s 15-plus-year effort to enhance the health system in Jordan.
