King stresses keenness to protect and enhance human rights
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday, stressed his keenness to protect and enhance human rights in Jordan, and called for boosting cooperation, coordination and efforts of the government and other concerned departments to achieve this objective.
Receiving the 2016-2025 Comprehensive Human Rights Plan from Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, the King affirmed the need to implement the plan and its recommendations with concerned departments within a specific timetable.
The plan, King Abdullah said, is a key element in enhancing the comprehensive reform process, and building on what has been achieved to empower citizens and protect their rights and freedoms.
Justice Minister and head of the higher committee for setting up the plan, Basam Talhoni told Petra that the 2016-2025 Comprehensive Human Rights Plan is a comprehensive one that addresses aspects related to human rights.
The plan he added, focuses on civil, political, economic and cultural rights, as well as the rights of the most vulnerable people such as the elderly, children and women.
The minister said that the plan, which will be implemented over a period of 10 years, will be reviewed periodically by the committee.
It was set up by the government in cooperation with the National Center for Human Rights, civil society institutions as well as associations and will be implemented by government as well as civil society institutions.
