King stresses US Jewish organizations' role in peace talks efforts
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, late Wednesday with leaders of the American Jewish organizations in Washington and discussed means to break the deadlock and resume the Israeli- Palestinian talks based on the two-state solution.
During the meeting, the King stressed the important role of the Jewish organizations in supporting efforts to revive peace talks, hoping that 2016 will witness a real progress in this path.
His Majesty stressed the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, which is the core conflict in the region, warning at the same time that leaving this issue unresolved will fuel violence and extremism in the region and negatively affect global security and stability.
The King reiterated the need to stop all recurrent Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa mosque /Haram Al-Sharif, which escalate the conflict in the region. King Abdullah affirmed that protecting and preserving the Al-Aqsa Mosque /Haram Al-Sharif is a core responsibility under the Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem's holy shrines.
The King said that regional and global efforts to fight terrorism and extremism are the biggest challenges to the international community, adding that confronting terror groups is a top priority that requires boosting efforts and coordination between various parties that should be addressed within a holistic approach.
The meeting also touched upon the latest developments in Syria and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that puts a stop to the cycle of death and violence and ends the suffering of the Syrian people.
His Majesty underlined burdens borne by the Kingdom as a result of hosting nearly 1.3 million Syrian refugees on its territory, highlighting challenges pertaining to providing the Syrian refugees with health, educational and infrastructure services.
Representatives of American Jewish organizations expressed their appreciation for His Majesty's efforts to revive peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis , the humanitarian and relief services provided by Jordan for Syrian refugees as well as the Kingdom's important role to bring about security and stability in the region.
They also praised Jordan's efforts in promoting tolerance, dialogue and coexistence among the followers of religions and renouncing violence and extremism in the Middle East and the world.
In an interview with Petra, Vice President of Government Affairs at J Street, Dylan Williams, expressed pleasure to hear His Majesty's remarks, describing the King's meeting with US President Obama as fruitful. The meeting, he added reflects the importance of bilateral relations, which represents a priority for anyone who wants to see a stable and prosperous Middle East.
Williams also said 'I believe that Jordan in the coming years will have a more important role at the regional and global levels, especially with regards to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which needs a regional and international approach to solve it.' 'No country has a more vital role than Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty, in the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state recognized by the international community, he added.
