House speaker delivers Jordan's speech at APU meeting in Geneva
AMMONNEWS - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh said that Jordanians, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, are united in supporting the Palestinians, and reiterated Jordan's stance on the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
Tarawneh, who delivered Jordan's speech at the extraordinary session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU) on the sidelines of meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, said that King Abdullah, as custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem, is making intensive contacts with the international community and influential powers, to put an end to the Israeli violations against Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque.
He added that the recent events in the occupied Palestinian lands came as a result of the continued Israeli provocations and storming of Al Aqsa Mosque, noting that these violations are infuriating the emotions of 1.5 billion Muslims around the world.
'The continued Israeli provocations and escalations in occupied Jerusalem and all Palestinian cities and villages carries the threat of igniting a religious war,' Tarawneh added, urging Israel to end these violations and respect the sanctity of the holy sites.
The speaker reiterated the need for concerted Arab efforts to defend the Palestinian issue and stop the Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
