Ambassador Program recognizes impact of exceptional Jordanian in promoting tourism
AMMONNEWS - Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), with USAID Economic Growth Through Sustainable Tourism Project support, officially launched the Jordan International Conferences Ambassador Program with a seminar to introduce the program to leaders of Jordan’s academic, scientific, business and medical sectors.
The program recognizes the exceptional achievements of Jordanian leaders in different sectors and draws upon their knowledge, prestige and influence to promote Jordan as a meetings, conferences and exhibitions destination. The program was first launched in the US in the 1970s and has since been successfully implemented in many destinations around the world.
The meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry is closely connected to the tourism industry, and is big business around the world. Jordan recently launched a strategy aiming to enhance its competitiveness and enlarge its position as a meetings industry destination. Engaging local assets through Implementation of the Jordan program is one of the main pillars of the MICE Sector Strategy.
‘’JTB is very pleased to launch this new initiative and to have a unified body that deals with these leading Jordanians in different sectors and recognize them inside Jordan just like they are recognized outside. Having the board as a partner with them will leverage their position within their respective associations, give them more power and ultimately enhance Jordan presence within the different vital sectors,’’ said JTB Managing Director Abdelrazzaq Arabiyat.
'Jordan’s Ambassador Program is an industry led collaborative first step to implement the Meetings and Conventions Sector Strategy that was developed with USAID tourism project support. Jordan is an attractive host destination for international meetings; this program will get the word out internationally about our potential by utilizing our best resources, Jordanian leaders who have made a mark in their own fields and will now help Jordan’s economy prosper by growing the Meetings Sector and developing tourism,' said Ibrahim Osta, Chief of Party to USAID’s Economic Growth through Sustainable Tourism Project.
With the launch of the program, JTB is starting to identify and shortlist potential Ambassadors. Around 60 prospective professionals attended the introductory seminar that took place at the launch event. At the seminar participants learned how they can use meetings and conferences as a tool to differentiate themselves and reach global recognition and how meetings can grow and develop the economic sectors and academic fields. The seminar also demonstrated how to put together successful bids and the key factors that organizers of international conferences consider when selecting a host destination.
