Iranian embassy denies Soleimani's remarks on Jordan
AMMONNEWS - Iran's embassy in Amman has denied alleged statements attributed to the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC Quds Force), Major General Qassem Suleimani, who was reported as saying this weekend that he believed Tehran had the ability to control events in Jordan, as it does in Iraq and Lebanon ,Middle East Monitor reported.
In a statement released on Monday, the embassy said that: 'the alleged statements attributed to General Suleimani about developments in the region and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in particular were unfounded.'
The embassy pointed out that following the release of media reports, the public relations department in the Revolutionary Guards issued a statement denying all remarks attributed to General Suleimani.
The statement stressed that 'the Revolutionary Guards reserves the right to prosecute through the legitimate authorities those who spread fabricated news about them that have a negative impact on public opinion and will take the necessary action in this regard.'
The statement further called on 'parties keen on creating a climate of friendship and respect not to believe this fabricated news that aims to spread tension in the Islamic nation.'
The embassy stressed that relations with Jordan are moving towards more openness and understanding.
Jordan's information minister, Mohammed Al-Momani, told reporters in Amman on Monday that his country was following media reports to assess their accuracy, the Anadolu agency reported.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Jordan have recently thawed following a freeze of almost six years during which Jordan refused to name an ambassador in Tehran.
In September last year, Jordan appointed former information minister, Abdullah Abu Rumman, as the Kingdom's ambassador to Tehran.
Earlier this month, Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Nasser Judeh visited Iran and met with Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rohani.
