Foreign minister, Arab league secretary-general discuss cooperation
AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Nasser Judeh and Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Elaraby Thursday discussed cooperation between Jordan and the Arab League.
The two officials also discussed issues on the agenda of the ministerial meeting of the 143rd regular session of the Arab League Council, which will be headed by Jordan for six months as of March 9.
Judeh and Elaraby reviewed the ongoing preparations for the Arab summit in Egypt, which will be held at the end of March, topics included in this summit and the ministerial meeting that precedes it.
They discussed efforts to counter terrorism, extremism and terrorist organizations, and the required coordination between Arab countries in this regard.
Judeh briefed Elaraby on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the importance of re-launching serious and effective negotiations with a timeframe, leading eventually to the establishment of a full independent sovereign Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil on the fourth of June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, as part of the two-state solution, which ensures security and peace for all countries in the region.
They also discussed the latest developments in Syria and Iraq, stressing the importance of prioritizing dialogue and reaching a political solution to all issues and developments.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League expressed his keenness to continue coordinating with Jordan, due to its pivotal role, with the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in dealing with various issues and its membership at the UN Security Council. He praised the special relationship between the Arab League and Jordan.
