AMMONNEWS - The Council of Ministers on Sunday gave the go-ahead for the Jordan National Electricity Company to sign an agreement with Shell to buy liquefied natural gas from the global energy giant.
Shell had been selected from tenders submitted by a host of local and international bidders to a special committee that the government had earlier designated to proceed with the necessary steps for the purchase of natural gas at best prices.
The cabinet had assigned the national power company, as buyer of natural gas, to negotiate with Shell the terms of the deal that would secure about 15 per cent of Jordan's energy needs. It is also in line with the national strategy to diversify energy sources.
