China, S.Korea, Jordan offer to help equip Lebanese Army
AMMONNEWS - China and Jordan have offered to help better equip the Lebanese Army in its fight against terrorism, As-Safir reported Saturday.
The daily quoted sources as saying that South Korea asked the Lebanese Army to buy arms from Seoul and that the latter would donate a modern frigate.
China also proposed to sell arms at a lower price than other countries and a Lebanese delegation headed to Beijing to discuss the issue, according to the report.
A Lebanese military delegation is also expected to travel to Amman to discuss with the Jordanian leadership its offer to donate to the Army, As-Safir said.
The countries would be joining the U.S., U.K. and Saudi Arabia in their efforts to arm and train Lebanese soldiers to face the growing threat of terrorism particularly along the border with Syria.
The Army engaged in heavy clashes with militants from ISIS and Nusra Front in August in Arsal where gunmen sought to overrun the border town. Soldiers also fought similar elements in Tripoli and other northern regions last month.
