AMMONNEWS - Around 60 Jewish settlers on Tuesday stormed the holy compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Al-Magarbah gate, according to the Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage, Petra News Agency reported.
The Foundation said in a statement that settlers were led by a number of rabbis, who roamed the compounds of the mosque under the protection of Israeli troops.
The intrusion angered Palestinian worshippers and religious students who had gathered to prevent any provocative acts by the settlers.
Israeli troops attacked a number of religious students who tried to prevent extremist settlers from entering the mosque, the statement added.
The statement called on the Muslim nation to take a 'firm stance to protect their holy places following an escalation in the Israeli attacks against the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem.'
