Amman municipality steps up preps for Pope's visit
AMMONNEWS - Amman municipal staff has stepped up preparations, including implementation of a working plan the municipality had formulated earlier, ahead of Pope Francis' historic visit to the Kingdom on May 24.
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) senior official Bassem Tarawneh led staff members on a tour of the Vatican embassy and landmarks along the route of the pontiff's motorcade, including the Al Hussein Youth City and the Jordan Valley Baptism Site, to coordinate with the concerned authorities on the services needed for the reception.
GAM's tasks include cleaning, road maintenance, planting flowers on roadsides and posting welcoming placards and signs along the route and in squares and intersections near the papal mission and the sports city.
Amman mayor Aqel Beltaji last week ordered municipality staff to closely coordinate with ministries and other relevant entities and institutions to portray the capital in its brightest glory during the papal trip.
